The Counselor's Corner

Be There!

Being in school all day, every day helps your child get the most out of school.  Encourage good attendance with these tips:

  • Point out that there is no substitute for being in class. Students need to be present to hear teachers explain concepts.
  • Schedule doctor, dentist, and orthodontist appointments for before or after school hours whenever possible.  If not, try to arrange them around their enhancement classes.
  • It will be easier for students to get up for school when they have had plenty of sleep.  Set a reasonable bedtime and make sure that there are no distractions in the room to keep them awake.  Not only will it be easier for them to get up for school, but they will be focused and ready for a great day of learning!

Homework Hints!

Work in a place where there will be less interruptions.

Be sure to have all materials needed.

Let’s Talk Bullying!

There is no way to guarantee that your child will never be bullied. But there are things that you can do to help.

  • Ensure that your child knows the difference between bullying and teasing.
  • Talk to your child about bullying.  Tell him/her if they see someone being bullied or is bullied themselves, that they should immediately report the action to an adult.
  • Remind your child that they are not expected to handle bullying situations alone.

Please feel free to log on to www.pacer.org for more information on bullying.
